Mercedes-Benz GLK Speedster

One of the most extreme concepts at this year's Las Vegas SEMA Show is the Urban Whip from Boulevard Customs. The Florida-based coach builder took the new Mercedes-GLK and transformed into a four-door, crossover speedster -that sounds even weirder than it looks.

The crew over at Boulevard Customs removed the GLK's rooftop, chopped the windscreen and added the usual bling-bling accessories that SEMA is so famous for like the massive 26-inch alloy wheels and tires, the wide-body kit and more chrome than meets the eye.

2009 BRABUS Mercedes-Benz GLK

BRABUS has created an extensive customization program for the newly launched 2009 Mercedes-Benz GLK., which includes performance tuning for all engine variants, a full body kit, new alloy wheels with matching suspension solutions ad tons of interior options.

The body kit for the gasoline-powered GLK 350, offers the B7 power kit, which adds 15HP to the V6 engine raising output to 287HP. If you think that's lethargic, the German tuner has developed a 4.0 displacement V6 engine for both the GLK 350 and GLK 280 producing 332HP and a peak torque of 310 lb.-ft .at 4,200 rpm for a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 6.1 seconds, and a new top speed of 155 mph.

For those who prefer the diesel-powered GLK 320 CDI, BRABUS offers its ECO PowerXtra D6 (III) tuning that delivers an additional 48HP and a peak torque of 435 lb.-ft. With this kit, the 272HP GLK 320 CDI sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 142 mph.

In terms exterior styling, there's a full body kit that consists of a new front bumper that houses daytime running lights, as well as optional auxiliary high beams and fog lamps, a two-piece roof attachment with integrated LED position lights, rocker panels with integrated LED lights, a rear bumper and a roof spoiler. Customers can choose from a variety of alloy wheels starting off from 17-inches and going all the way up to 21-inches.

Interior customizations include stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logos, various versions of a sport steering wheel, interior trim sets made from wood or from genuine carbon fiber, as well as special BRABUS consoles for the seatbacks of the front seats complete with set of 7-inch LCD screens and an integrated DVD player.

Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Accessories

With European deliveries of the GLK-Class set to commence this October, Mercedes today has unveiled a range of new accessories titled the "Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Selection" that will accompany the SUV as it makes its world debut next month. Described as "a range of products whose distinctive design, high-quality, robust materials and confident colour scheme in the original vehicle colours underline the versatile personality of the compact Sports Utility Vehicle," the GLK-Class Selection offers an assortment of leisurewear for both men and women along with a number of accessories that take advantage of the great outdoors.

Select highlights include an outdoor jacket, a women's top and cap, a polo shirt, a picnic blanket, a folding camping chair, and even a football (no, not a soccer ball – an actual football), all of which are emblazoned with the GLK moniker. The GLK iPhone pouch will be officially made available to the public as well, although this time in a more rugged, non-CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski Elements design.

Mercedes-Benz Marks The Launch Of The New GLK With A European Design Competition

To celebrate the European launch of the new GLK this fall, Mercedes has announced today they'll be holding a special design competition centered around the SUV's groundbreaking styling. Titled "The design:project", the rules are simple. Six universities located in six European design capitals have been asked to put together an interdisciplinary team, who then have until the end of July to create various objects in different design areas, such as furniture, everyday objects and technical equipment. The designs must all be in line with an overarching theme, and they can be submitted in any form, including sketches, graphics, animations and models. The condition is that all objects and creations must be presentable in a surface area measuring 10 x 15 meters.

As for the winner, the team that produces the most stringent interpretation of the creative leitmotif across all the design disciplines will be rewarded with a cash prize of €10,000, while a special prize of €5,000 for the most outstanding individual design, irrespective of the leitmotif, will also be presented.

You may be wondering how this affects you. The answer, ladies and gentlemen, is that in addition to the design competition, Mercedes is also offering you the chance to win a two-day trip to one of the aforementioned European design capitals, where you'll not only get a chance to visit in person one of the design studios, but you'll also get a chance to discover local architectural highlights, restaurants, clubs and bars.

Mercedes-Benz At Auto China 2008 Details Of The U.S. Bound GLK-Class

The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, the versatile new member of the Mercedes sport utility vehicle family, will make its U.S. dealer showroom debut in January 2009 as a 2010 model.

Powered by a 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine the 2010MY GLK350 will form the basis of the U.S. lineup, and will be offered in both 4MATIC and two-wheel-drive versions, riding on standard 19-inch 10-spoke wheels with 235/50 tires.
