Seat Ibiza FR spied

According to our overseas spies, this heavily disguised model is likely the new Seat Ibiza.

Its large wheels and twin exhaust pipes suggest it could be the FR-variant - one below the flagship performance Cupra.

A brief glimpse of the interior also reveals red stitching on a mix of leather and cloth seats.

A segue between the normal range and the hot version, the FR Ibiza should boast a four-cylinder turbocharged engine from the Volkswagen family.

Expect around 134kW from this Spanish family hatch, launching it into the league of the GTi - with yet another more powerful model still to come.

SEAT Ibiza Cupra unveiled

In Europe, budget-minded pistonheads have a treasure trove of hot hatches to choose from, and SEAT will be adding another model to the mix later this year.

Seat Ibiza Cupra will be officially unveiled in Paris, but Seat has dropped the first few images and a handful of specs ahead of its official unveiling in the City of Light this October. The Cupra is packing a twin-turbocharged, 1.4-liter TSI four underhood, sending 178 hp to the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG gearbox. Traction control and ESP are part of the package, along with a stiffer suspension, 17-inch wheels and bolstered buckets. The exterior benefits from a new fascia incorporating massive grilles and tiny fog lamps, side skirts and a new rear bumper.

Seat Ibiza SportCoupe – review

New Seat Ibiza hatchback hasn’t even gone on sale in the UK, and already the Spanish car maker is showing off the three-door version- the Seat Ibiza SportCoupe. The Seat Ibiza SportCoupe has a unique profile – designed under the watchful eye of ex-Lamborghini design chief Luc Donckerwolke – and the first application of the VW Group's seven-speed DSG semi-automatic gearbox.

The Seat Bocanegra was one of the stars of the 2008 Geneva motor show - but even so, few expected the Spanish manufacturer to put the car in production, relatively unchanged

Despite the lower profile, the SportCoupe still offers adequate headroom up front – although taller drivers might struggle – and a reasonable boot. At 284 litres it's far from the biggest, but swallowed two small suitcases and a laptop bag easily on our test drive.

Seat also revealed a pair of hot hatches will go on sale next year: FR and Cupra, which will both feature the VW Group's 1.4-litre TSI engine. This boasts a turbocharger and supercharger, and Seat told Auto Trader the cars' power will be in excess of 150 and 180bhp for the FR and Cupra respectively.

A low-emission Ecomotive version will also join the line up; and although exact specifications are yet to be confirmed, it will produce less than 100g/km of CO2.

The Seat Ibiza SportCoupe scored a full five star rating in the EuroNCAP crash test programme for adult occupant protection, four for child safety and three for protecting pedestrians. It counts ESP, head thorax side airbags (a first in the supermini class) and side curtain airbags among the safety kit.

Seat offer the Ibiza SportCoupe in three trim levels: Reference, Stylance and Sport. All models feature anti-trap electric front windows, remote central locking and a six speaker MP3-compatible CD player as standard.

Designed for combining with the original shock absorbers, the agility-enhancing suspension-lowering springs lower the new Ibiza by 35 mm. The appearance of the car also benefits from this, allowing the compact Seat to prowl significantly closer and more menacingly over the tarmac.

A change of wheels is fundamental to any vehicle tuning exercise. In its Ibiza suite, JE DESIGN is offering the sporty and elegant “Multispoke” wheel design in the form of a complete wheel set. As an option, JE DESIGN is also offering the set in 7x17 inch ET 35 and 7.5x18 inch ET 35 with 215/40 R17 or 215/35 R18 tyres. In addition, customers get to choose between the finishes “Shadow silver” and “Black matt / Rim flange, silver”.

Seat Ibiza three doors in November and the Cupra in 2009

Confirmation of the production of the Seat Bocanegra Concept revealed at Ginevra has arrived. The prototype seen at the show previews the aspects of the next three-door Ibiza, expected for November with the name Sportcoupè: but especially it will have the black nose reflecting the mean look of the Cupra, 2009, which as a showcar makes itself noticed for its chrome finish.

The good news is that the Cupra will maintain most aspects of the Bocanegra such as the front air vent design. Designer Luc Donckerwolke, ex-Lamborghini, has declared that given the success won for the prototype, it would be unthinkable to change the series’ version.

The Cupra will be equipped with a 1.4 TFSI at 180 hp and the new DSG seven gears and together with the new Toledo will be the most important news in 2009. The Toledo will be based on the old Audi A4 series but dressed up in Seat style.

2008 SEAT Ibiza

SEAT, the Spanish manufacturer owned by Volkswagen, teased Geneva Motor Show visitors this year with the 3-door Bocanegra concept car. Today it unveiled the production version, which, as expected, takes on the Ibiza nameplate. The attractive 5-door had a lot of work done at the plastic surgeon's office, as the old car's bland lines have been transformed completely.

Flat is definitely out, and the pair of diagonal character lines first shown on Bocanegra now adorn the new compact. In front, the Ibiza wears a new face -- one that European shoppers should get used to, as it's likely to trickle through to other SEATs over time. The most obvious change is the wider, more traditional-looking grille, which helps to mainstream the SEAT's appearance compared to the quirky faces you'll find on some of its stablemates.
