Bmw 5 Series 2010
The 2010 BMW 5-Series sees no major changes pending a redesign due in calendar 2010 as a 2011 model. This premium midsize car comes as a sedan or wagon. Rear-wheel drive or BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive is available, depending on model selection. The lineup starts with the 528i, which comes as a sedan only with rear- or all-wheel drive. One step up are the 535i sedan and wagon. The former comes with rear- or all-wheel drive, while the latter is AWD only. All 528 and 535 models have a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, which makes 230 hp in 528s and 300 in the turbocharged 535s. The top-end 5-Series models are the 550i and high-performance M5 sedans. The 550i has a 360-hp 4.8-liter V8, and M5 has a 500-hp 5.0-liter V10.
A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on all 528, 535, and 550i versions. A conventional 6-speed automatic transmission is a no-cost option. Standard on the M5 is a 7-speed automated manual transmission, which can be set to shift like an automatic. A conventional 6-speed manual is offered at no extra charge. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front and rear side airbags, and head-protecting tubular side airbags. BMW Assist emergency and concierge service is also standard. All 5-Series cars have BMW's iDrive, which uses a console knob to control entertainment, navigation, communication, and climate functions. Available features include a sport suspension teamed with run-flat tires, BMW's Active Roll Stabilization designed to counteract body lean, and BMW's Active Steering that electronically varies steering ratio and assist. Note that, later in the model year, BMW is introducing a new 5-Series wagon called the Gran Turismo (see separate report).
