Clear Channel Entertainment-Motorsports, IHRA and Milan Dragway have announced that the upcoming major motion picture The Dukes of Hazzard, starring Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, and Jessica Simpson, will be the title sponsor for the Motor City Nationals, presented by GM Performance Division brought to you by Heritage Newspapers.
The Dukes of Hazzard, based on the original characters of the hit television series that ran from 1979-1985 that followed the trials and tribulations of the Duke family and their run-ins with Jefferson Davis J.D. Hogg, is slated to be one of the biggest hits of the summer movie season. I can t tell you how excited I am about this sponsorship opportunity, said IHRA President Aaron Polburn. We couldn t have come up with a better sponsorship than The Dukes of Hazzard. The show holds a special place in the hearts of a generation.
Four-time consecutive IHRA Top Fuel World Champion Clay Millican will even be driving a Top Fuel dragster with a Dukes of Hazzard-themed paint scheme. I think everybody knows that my first race car was a 69 Charger, painted just like the General Lee, said Millican. This is going to be a real cool deal for our team, for IHRA, and the Motor City Nationals.
Milan Dragway s Director of Events, Deneen Baxter, also feels that the sponsorship is a perfect fit. It is the Motor City Nationals, she said, and there might not be a more famous automotive tie-in than having the General Lee in your corner. With Heritage Newspapers and GM Performance Division as presenting sponsors, this event is going to be special.
Polburn hopes that this sponsorship is a harbinger of things to come for IHRA and its national event schedule. We’re definitely looking into the possibilities of non-traditional sponsorships for our events. It s a brave new world, and we re hoping that bringing The Dukes of Hazzard on board as a title sponsor for one of our premier events is just the tip of the iceberg.
